P-51D “Mustang”

The Mustang made its first Army Air Force flight in September 1942, with the final delivery in November of 1945. It was flown extensively in World War II and the Korean War. The P-51D displayed at Volk Field (S/N 44-72989) was obtained from the 109th Fighter Squadron, MN ANG. It is displayed as flown by the 126th Fighter Squadron, WI ANG, Milwaukee, in the 1950s.

There are three known North American P-51 Mustangs on display in Wisconsin.
