In compliance with Assistant Secretary of Defense Guidance Memorandum dated 4 December 2024, Volk Field Air National Guard Base is publishing test results for Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) levels in the drinking water. As a consumer of drinking water at Volk Field, you are entitled to be informed of these findings and the actions being taken to address them. We remain committed to transparency and to implementing appropriate remediation measures to ensure water quality and safety.
On April 26, 2024, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a National Primary Drinking Water Regulation (NPDWR) final rule on drinking water standards for six PFAS* under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). As a water purveyor, Volk Field must ensure the drinking water contains less than the Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCL) for 5 PFAS by April 26, 2029. Volk Field must also calculate a Hazard Index using the levels of all 6 PFAS. The following are the results of tests taken in May 2024 at each of the two wells that pump water into the drinking water system:

***The six PFAS regulated under the EPA NPDWR include Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS), Perfluorohexane sulfonate (PFHxS), Hexafluoropropylene Oxide Dimer Acid (HFPO-DA also known as GenX chemicals), Perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA), and Perfluorobutane sulfonate (PFBS).
